Box Score CANTON, N.Y. – Maine Maritime women's lacrosse fell to SUNY Canton, 19-4 on Sunday afternoon in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) matchup.
How it Happened: The Kangaroos were the first on the board with a goal from Samantha Dayter. The Mariners quickly answered when Olivia Harriman (Orrington, Maine) found Darby Cendoma (Livonia, N.Y.) for Maine Maritime's first goal of the day. SUNY Canton then scored off a free position shot before Hazel Stoddard (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) scored an unassisted goal to tie the game 2-2. The Kangaroos then went on to score 10 unanswered goals. Beth Labbe (Brunswick, Maine) ended the first half with a goal off a free position shot to make the score 12-3 in favor of the Kangaroos.
Maine Maritime started off the second half with a goal from Stoddard, assisted by Aubrey Mitchell (Spofford, N.H.). SUNY Canton then scored seven consecutive goals to end the game, claiming a 19-4 win.
Inside the Numbers: Stoddard led the Mariners with two goals, along with team-highs of four ground balls, three caused turnovers, and two draw controls. Mitchell and Kirra Magaña (Miami, Fla.) each scooped up two ground balls and Magaña also caused two turnovers.
Dayter and Maddy Caron each tallied six goals and Dayter also recorded eight assists, while Caron scooped up six ground balls. Maddy Weir caused a game-high four turnovers.
Charlotte Rose (Newark, Del.) totaled 12 saves in net for the Mariners, while Madison Leary recorded seven.
The Kangaroos held a 38-14 advantage in shots and a 23-14 advantage in ground balls against the Mariners.
Up Next: The Mariners fall to 5-6 overall and 3-1 in conference, while SUNY Canton improves to 7-5 overall and 4-0 in conference. Maine Maritime returns to action on Thursday, April 14 when they travel to Bangor to face Husson University in a NAC matchup.
