CANTON, N.Y. – Maine Maritime women's lacrosse fell to SUNY Canton, 22-6 on Sunday afternoon in the NAC Championship to conclude the most successful season in program history.

How it Happened: The Kangaroos started off the game with a 5-0 run, before Hazel Stoddard (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) scored an unassisted goal to put the Mariners on the board. SUNY Canton went on to score three more goals, until Stoddard scored another unassisted goal to make the score 9-2 at the end of the first quarter. The Kangaroos scored seven consecutive goals to add to their lead and Stoddard scored again for the Mariners off a free position shot to make the score 16-3 going into the half.

Lily Cook (Southwest Harbor, Maine) opened up the third quarter with a goal off a free position shot, before the Kangaroos continued to extend their lead by three. The Mariners struck first in the fourth quarter when Cook found the back of the net. SUNY Canton answered six minutes later with a goal, before Stoddard scored her fourth goal of the game. The Kangaroos scored two more goals on their way to winning the NAC Championship.

Inside the Numbers: Stoddard led the Mariners with four goals, along with game-highs of eight draw controls, three ground balls, and three caused turnovers, while Cook added two goals, two draw controls, and one ground ball.

Samantha Dayter and Maddy Caron led the Kangaroos with four goals each. Dayter also had four assists, five draw controls, and two caused turnovers, while Caron had three assists, four draw controls, three ground balls, and one caused turnover.

Charlotte Rose (Newark, Del.) tallied eight saves in net for the Mariners, while Madison Leary recorded seven for the Kangaroos.

SUNY Canton held a 37-19 advantage in shots and a 20-11 advantage in ground balls over the Mariners.
