Sydney Briscoe recorded a double-double 11 points and game-high 11 rebounds, to help power the Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball team to a season-opening 58-45 comeback victory over Wheaton College (Mass.) at the Tripp Athletic Center on Saturday. The Mariners will conclude the UMass-Dartmouth Lafrance Hospitality Tournament at 2 p.m. Sunday against the host Corsairs, a 68-49 winner today over Union College (N.Y.).

- Wheaton, which led 14-8 after the first quarter, took a 16-8 advantage with 9 minutes and 41 seconds left in the first half.
- But MMA went on a 9-0 run over a 3:10 span to take its first lead since 2-0, going up 17-16.
- The teams traded points for the next few minutes before a trey by sophomore Laney Lyle for her only points of the day put the Mariners ahead for good at 23-20.
- Maine Maritime went into halftime with a 27-24 advantage.
- In the third quarter, MMA outscored WC 17-9 and built as much as a 17-point cushion at 42-25 with 3:28 to go.
- The Mariners kept their double-digit lead in the fourth to cruise to the non-conference victory.
- Maine Maritime enjoyed a 41-29 rebounding margin.
