BRISTOL, R.I.--The Maine Maritime Academy men's wrestling team concluded the fall semester portion of its 2024-25 schedule on Saturday when the Mariners competed in the Roger Williams University Scott Veira Open at the RWU Hawks Field House. There was no team scoring at this event which featured nationally-ranked programs Vermont State Castleton and Johnson & Wales as well New England region powers Western New England and host RWU.
Maine Maritime was led by freshman
Nathan Willoughby who was the runner-up at 285 pounds. He reached the finals by earning a first-round bye and then pinning WNE's Colton Wells and William Randall from the University of Rhode Island in 37 seconds and 2 minutes, 45 seconds, respectively. Willoughby lost to the Hawks' Jayden Toppan in a 2:20 fall in the championship match.

Gregory Brunk went 2-2 at 184. Junior
Bradford Zajac (165) and freshmen
Brice Retell (184),
Kyle Stickel (174) also picked up victories today.
Maine Maritime will ring in 2025 with its home debut in Smith Gymnasium on Saturday, Jan. 4, against Keystone College and nationally-ranked Southern Maine.
