Women's Basketball Throttles Host Husson to Begin NAC Championship Defense

Senior Erianna Moore eclipses 1,000 career points with a game-high 19

BANGOR, Maine—Senior Erianna Moore reached 1,000 career points at Maine Maritime Academy with a game-high 19 to help the Mariners begin their North Atlantic Conference women's basketball title defense with a convincing 68-44 victory over rival Husson University at William P. Newman Gymnasium on Wednesday. The visiting Mariners improve to 4-2 on the season (1-0 NAC-East) while the Eagles remain winless in six outings (0-1 NAC-East).

  • Moore finished 9-for-14 from the floor to go along with game highs of five assists and three blocked shots. She also two steals.
  • Senior Sydney Briscoe (6 points, 2 assists) pulled down a game-best 10 rebounds.
  • Junior Evelyn Dagan chipped in 14 points on 4-for-8 three-point shooting.
  • Junior Grace Huntwork and freshman Addison Forry added eight and seven points, respectively, off the bench.
Husson Highlights
  •  Hannah Richards and Lilly Roy led the Eagles with nine points apiece.
  • Jordyn Lengle (6 points) led HU with five rebounds and Laela Martinez came off the bench to nab a game-high four steals.
How it Happened
  • Maine Maritime shot 56.3 percent from the field (9-16) and held Husson to just 23.5 percent (4-17) to take a 19-8 lead after the opening quarter.
  • The Mariners made four of their first five buckets to take an 8-0 lead.
  • Maine Maritime continued to excel both offensively and defensively in the second quarter, building a 37-22 lead at halftime.
  • Husson got to within 26-20 on a Roy layup with 6 minutes and 13 seconds left in the second, but MMA ended the quarter with an 11-2 run on the way to its biggest lead of the first half.
  • Maine Maritime never trailed on the evening.
  • In the second half, the Mariners wouldn't let the Eagles cut their lead to single digits.
  • In fact, the MMA lead swelled to 27 points on a couple occasions in the third (55-28) and fourth (68-41) quarters.
  • For the game, Maine Maritime, which shot 47.4 percent from the field, held Husson to a 25.0 clip.
  • The Mariners used their size and aggressiveness to outscore the Eagles, 28-16 in the paint.
