PROVIDENCE, R.I.--On Saturday, Maine Maritime Academy traveled to the Wildcat Center on the campus of Johnson & Wales University where the Mariners competed in the Wildcats Men's Wrestling Open against a stacked field. No team scores were kept and only individual scores were recorded.

Junior Bradford Zajac led the Mariners with a 2-2 record at 165 pounds, pinning his first opponent Nick Piatti of Springfield in 1 minute and 18 seconds after a first-round bye. After a loss to Coast Guard's Tye Barker in the championship Sweet 16, Zajac rebounded with another pin over Barker's Bears teammate Alex Marshall in 3:26.

Freshman Kyle Stickel also chalked up a win at 174 in an 18-3 technical fall over Kenage Demosthene from Nassau Community College.

Maine Maritime turns its attention to the next scheduled event on Saturday, Feb. 1, at the New England Wrestling Association duals against host Roger Williams, Bridgewater (Mass.) State and Plymouth State in Bristol, R.I.
