COBLESKILL, N.Y. — The Maine Maritime Academy men's golf team sits fifth overall after the opening round of the North Atlantic Conference Championship hosted by Cobleskill Country Club on Saturday.

The Mariners carded a 335 in the opening round, trailing Husson University, which leads with a 301. SUNY Delhi is second with a 306, followed by Lesley University in third with a 320 and SUNY Cobleskill in fourth with a 325.

Junior Mac McCarthy paced the Mariners with an eight-over-par 78 and sits in seventh place. Sophomore Nicholas Villella carded a nine-over-par 79 to finish in 11th, while freshman Nathan Baker tallied an 86 and junior Brady Bumford added a 92 as Maine Maritime's final scoring round.

Additionally, freshman Xavier Bellerose finished with a 95.

The Mariners will look to make up ground Sunday when they return to the course for the final round of the NAC Championship.
