Hadley Stoddard pumped in a career- and game-high five goals to help lead the Maine Maritime Academy women's lacrosse squad to a 12-4 Admiral's Cup victory over host Massachusetts Maritime Academy in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium. Maine Maritime is on a four-game winning streak to push its overall record to 4-1, while Mass. Maritime slips to 1-3 overall.
Maine Maritime Highlights
- Senior Hazel Stoddard added two goals among three points and she posted a game-best five ground balls.
- Junior goalie and reigning North Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week Ella Bowes got the win after making seven saves.
- Senior Kirra Magana, who is the recent NAC Player of the Week, led the Mariners with four draw controls while picking up three ground balls, two caused turnovers and scoring two points (1g, 1a).
- Sophomore Lillian Diversi chipped in three goals, three ground balls and three caused turnovers.
- Hadley Stoddard also had a trio of ground balls.
- Sophomore Bella Scolaro also had a multiple-point game with two assists.
Mass. Maritime Highlights
- Brady Deschamps led the Buccaneers with a pair of tallies.
- Mackenzie Hawkins accounted for seven of her team's 19 caused turnovers to top all defenders.
- Allie Dickinson joined Deschamps with a multi-point outing thanks to two assists.
- Lindsy Durgin won a game-best five draw controls, earned two ground balls and also scored a goal.
- Christiane Rech contributed five ground balls and three caused turnovers.
How it Happened
- Maine Maritime bolted to a 4-0 cushion after the first quarter and never looked back. Hadley Stoddard opened the scoring just 1 minute and 50 seconds into the contest, with sophomore Julia Wade (7:24), Diversi (4:41) and Hazel Stoddard (1:23) also finding the back of the cage.
- Magana scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with the Mariners on the man-up at 14:18 of the second quarter to push the lead to 5-0.
- Deschamps put the Bucs on the scoreboard at the 10:27 mark of the second quarter. The Mariners led 6-1.
- Maine Maritime led 7-2 at the halftime break.
- After each team scored a goal in the third quarter, Maine Maritime iced the road win by outscoring Mass. Maritime 4-1 in the fourth.
- Besides the scoreboard, the Mariners also had statistical advantages in clears (17-22 to 15-26), ground balls (26-20), shots (25-15), shots on goal (21-11) and free-position goals (5-for-7 to 1-for-6).
