Hazel Stoddard led all scorers with five points, as Maine Maritime Academy overcame a three-goal deficit to trip up host Husson University, 11-10, in North Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse action at John P. Boucher Field on Thursday evening. Maine Maritime improves to 7-1 on the season and strengthens its lead atop the NAC with a 3-0 conference record, while Husson drops to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in the NAC.
Maine Maritime Highlights
- Sophomore Lillian Diversi added four points on three goals and an assist.
- Junior goalie Ella Bowes (3 ground balls) made eight saves to preserve the win, including all three shots she faced in the final stanza.
- Stoddard finished with two goals and three assists, plus three draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers.

How it Happened
- Maine Maritime was trailing 10-9 going into the fourth quarter before Diversi scored the tying goal on a feed from Hazel Stoddard with 10 minutes and 52 seconds remaining, then Scolaro converted a man-up goal at 8:48 to put MMA ahead for good.
- The Mariners defense did the rest as Bowes made three saves down the stretch, forced three turnovers and blocked a shot.
- Husson still had a chance to tie the game and force overtime, but committed a turnover with 93 seconds left as senior Kirra Magana (5 ground balls, two caused turnovers, three draw controls) got the caused turnover and ground ball. Maine Maritime was able to run out the clock with the game's final possession.
- The Eagles scored three goals off the stick of Boehmcke (5:11), Natalie Whitten (3:57) and Baker (0:29) to end the second quarter and go up by three goals, 9-6, at halftime--the largest lead for either side.
- Maine Maritime began the second half with goals by the Stoddard sisters with Hazel scoring man-up at 12:31 and Hadley while man-down at 4:59 to make it a 9-8 deficit in the third quarter.
- Boehmcke and Hazel Stoddard traded goals 55 seconds apart to wrap up the scoring in the frame and give HU a 10-9 advantage.
- Maine Maritime went 3-for-9 on free-position goals and Husson was 2-for-5; the teams also combined for eight man-up goals (MMA: 5; HU: 3).
- Both teams enjoyed a one-goal lead in the first quarter; Hadley Stoddard gave MMA its first of the night at 5:52 at 3-2.
- Diversi found the back of the net with the Mariners on the man-up in the second quarter to make it 5-4 at 10:11 for MMA's last lead of the first half.
- The close score also was indicative of how evenly matched the teams were statistically in the boxscore.

- This game was originally scheduled a couple days ago on Tuesday but field conditions were unplayable after a snowstorm.
