Maine Maritime Football Schedule 2025

CASTINE--First-year head coach Nick Sheehan has announced the Maine Maritime Academy football schedule for 2025. The Mariners will play a full NCAA varsity schedule as an associate member of the Conference of New England (CNE) that includes four home dates at Ritchie Field and six road contests.

Since the return of the Maine Maritime program in 2023, Sheehan has assisted in all phases of football operations including recruiting, retention, and practice and game planning. He was responsible for coaching and developing the quarterbacks and wide receivers, as well as oversight of the offense.

The Sheehan coaching era begins in earnest with the Sept. 6 season opener at Hartwick College in Oneonta, N.Y. Maine Maritime and Hartwick have splitNick Sheehan coaching action from the sidelines their previous two meetings all-time.

After an open date the following Saturday, MMA will travel to Northfield, Vt., for a non-conference date on Sept. 20 against Norwich University in the teams' first meeting since 2019.

The Mariners will have their Ritchie Field home opener on Sept. 27 when they host Keystone College, which is a program that debuted in 2019.

The month of October commences with the CNE docket and the first conference game will be against Nichols College for MMA Homecoming on Oct. 4 weekend. Nichols and MMA were old foes of the New England Football Conference, the precursor to the current CNE umbrella. Maine Maritime leads the Bison in the all-time series 21-19.

Next up is a conference road date with Curry College in Milton, Mass., on Oct. 11. The Mariners lead the Colonels, 22-20-1 all-time, but haven't met since 2016.

The University of New England comes to town the following Saturday for a CNE contest against the Nor'Easters at Ritchie Field. They will be meeting for the first time on the gridiron.

Maine Maritime closes October on the 25th with a trip to Henniker, N.H., to take on new opponent New England College. The Pilgrims, who joined MMA as CNE associate football programs at the same time for 2025, are fielding their first NCAA-level team this fall.

The Mariners usher November with a tough match-up against perennial regional and conference power Endicott College on Nov. 1 in Beverly, Mass. The 2024 Gulls finished 18th in the national rankings, captured the CNE title and reached the second round of the NCAA Division III Football Championship.

On Nov. 8, MMA will host another regional power in Western New England University in the home finale at Ritchie Field. The Golden Bears have made six NCAA Division III Tournament appearances since 2011.

The Nov. 15 regular season finale for Maine Maritime will be on the road against local rival Husson University in Bangor. The Eagles also are a CNE football associate member like the Mariners and New England College. Husson and MMA--members of their primary sports North Atlantic Conference--will be meeting for the first time in football.

Last year, Maine Maritime prepared for its first full season of competition since 2019 by competing in three designated varsity games and two junior varsity exhibition contests. The Mariners also held two JV games in 2023. The 2020 campaign was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused the program to be on hiatus until now.
