CASTINE, Maine — Maine Maritime Academy announced Monday the hiring of Malik Smith as its defensive line coach.
Smith joins the Mariners after serving as an assistant defensive line coach at Gannon University and playing professional football overseas with the St. Quen Cougars in Paris.
"What stood out about Malik is how much he values building relationships and pushing players to reach their potential," head coach Nick Sheehan said. "He's the right fit for the culture we're establishing here at Maine Maritime."
Before his time at Gannon, Smith coached outside linebackers and the defensive line at Minnesota West Community & Technical College beginning in 2024.
"I'm honored to join this great staff at Maine Maritime Academy," Smith said. "I would like to thank Coach Sheehan and the staff for this opportunity. I'm excited to help build and teach these young men."
A graduate of Livingstone College, Smith earned a bachelor's degree as well as an associate degree from Minnesota State Community and Technical College.
