Women’s swimming & diving sits eighth after day 2 of LEC championship

WELLESLEY, Mass. — The Maine Maritime Academy women's swimming & diving team continued competition Friday at the 2026 Little East Conference Championships, highlighted by multiple consolation finals appearances and key relay performances.

The Mariners opened the evening with a seventh-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay, touching in 1:46.22 to secure valuable team points.

Maine Maritime later added another relay effort in the 400-yard medley relay, placing ninth overall with a time of 4:32.11.

Individually, freshman Marin Griffin led the way in the 500-yard freestyle, earning a 16th-place finish in 5:58.99 during the consolation final.

Junior Claire MacDonald delivered a strong swim in the championship final of the 100-yard butterfly, finishing sixth overall with a time of 1:04.40.

In the sprint freestyle, senior Rayelle Brewer captured ninth place in the consolation final of the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.18, while freshman Avery Fraga added a 16th-place finish in 27.19.

The Mariners also saw solid efforts in the 200-yard individual medley, where sophomore Natalie Cady (10th, 2:31.68), freshman Emily Metzker (11th, 2:34.54) and senior Kylie Cantlon (12th, 2:36.19) all scored in the consolation final.

Through Friday's events, Maine Maritime sits eighth in the team standings with 97 points as the championship meet continues.

The Mariners return to the pool on Saturday for day 3 of the LEC championship.
