Women’s lacrosse closes out regular season with NAC road win over UMF

FARMINGTON, Maine — Maine Maritime Academy used a dominant first half and balanced offensive attack to cruise to a 13-5 victory over University of Maine at Farmington on Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse action.

Maine Maritime (8-4, 5-1 NAC) controlled the game from the opening draw, scoring the first six goals and taking a 6-0 lead into halftime. The Mariners opened the contest with four goals in the first quarter, including two from junior Lillian Diversi and a pair from junior Bella Scolaro, to set the tone early.

Diversi and Scolaro led the offensive surge, each netting four goals. Scolaro added three assists for a game-high seven points, while Diversi chipped in an assist for five points. Sophomore Caitlyn Lamb contributed two goals and an assist, and sophomore Hadley Stoddard and freshman Lauren Robinson each tallied a goal and an assist. Freshman Hayden Meffert also found the back of the net to round out the scoring for the Mariners.

Maine Maritime continued to build its lead in the third quarter, pushing the advantage to 9-1 following a three-goal burst that included a free-position score from Scolaro and another tally from Diversi.

Defensively, the Mariners were just as effective. Senior goalkeeper Ella Bowes made eight saves to earn the win, anchoring a unit that held Maine-Farmington scoreless for over 30 minutes to start the game. Maine Maritime also controlled possession with a 12-8 edge in draw controls and scooped up 28 ground balls.

The Mariners closed out the contest with four fourth-quarter goals, including a late score from Meffert, maintaining a comfortable margin throughout the final period.

Maine Maritime finished with advantages in shots (23-19), draw controls (12-8) and ground balls (28-27), while converting 2-of-3 free-position opportunities.

The Mariners now faceoff against Husson University in the NAC championship with the location, date and time to be decided during Monday's conference call.
