CASTINE, Maine — The Maine Maritime Academy Men's Basketball program is excited to announce the addition of Prentice Young Jr. to its 2026 recruiting class, the second under Head Coach Cedric Gillette.
Young, a 6'3" guard from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, joins the Mariners after spending the 2025-26 season at Sauk Valley Community College, where he played under Head Coach A.J. Sharp. A regular starter, Young averaged 6.6 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.0 assist per game while helping lead the Skyhawks to a 16-win season.
Prior to Sauk Valley, Young enjoyed a decorated career at perennial powerhouse Wisconsin Lutheran High School. He helped lead the Vikings to three regional championships and two Woodland West Conference championships while establishing himself as one of the most accomplished players in program history. A three-time Woodland West All-Conference selection and two-time Wisconsin All-State honoree, Young eclipsed the 1,000-point milestone and finished his career ranked fifth in school history in scoring and second all-time in both assists and steals.
Away from the court, Young enjoys watching anime, thrifting, and playing mini golf. He chose Maine Maritime Academy because of the opportunity to help build a winning culture and contribute to the continued growth of the program. Young plans to major in International Business & Logistics at Maine Maritime Academy.
