Major: Marine Systems Engineering
Hometown: Avon, Maine

Why did you choose Maine Maritime? I chose Maine Maritime because of the inviting campus, students, and faculty. Everyone at Maine Maritime sincerely wants you to succeed and will help you any way they can. This along with the opportunity to continue playing a college sport made it an easy decision for me.
Why did you choose Marine Systems Engineering? I chose my major to get a taste of various engineering disciplines. I have been able to learn about thermodynamics, electronics, programming, along with structures, materials, and fluids. This baseline has allowed me to figure out what discipline I want to explore in a career or in a masters program.
What supportive measures have you used to succeed at Maine Maritime? Maine Maritime has done an excellent job making sure I have everything I need to succeed. From extra help in classes to things to do outside of school.
How do you balance academics, the regiment, and athletics? I spend a lot of time planning out my schedule every week. I sit down on Sunday and figure out what I have going on that week and then give myself plenty of time to complete assignments and to have down time. Taking an hour every day to work on a hobby or do something that’s not school related keeps me motivated and in a good state of mind.
Tell us about a summer experience related to Maine Maritime: Right now I am spending the summer in San Diego, California, working for a sub contractor. Maine Maritime opened up this opportunity through alumni connections. It has been an amazing experience to move across country and experience living a completely life style than I ever have before.
What has been your favorite class at MMA? My favorite class has been Naval Architecture. This class dives into all of the components of stability, loading conditions, and the strength of ship.
What advice would you give an incoming first-year student? Ask your upperclassman about classes, events, or how to keep everything balanced. A lot of athletes work as tutors or have taken the same classes as you are. There are no dumb questions, ask away!
