Hometown: Warren, Maine
Major: Marine Transportation Operations
Anticipated Graduation Year: 2022

Why did you choose to attend Maine Maritime? I choose to attend Maine Maritime because it offered the best opportunities for travel, income, and employment after college.  Also, it is close to home, next to the Ocean, and has awesome professors.
Why did you choose Marine Transportation Operations for a major? I love nature, especially the ocean and meteorology. The ability to spend my career looking out at the ocean was not a hard choice. There is some truth in the saying, “when the ocean calls, she never let's go.”
What first got you interested in sailing? My older sister read the Arthur Ransome books to me when I was little. In 8th grade, my parents allowed me to join the local racing team. Some of my fondest memories come from the years spent on that team.
Tell us about something outside of Mariners Athletics that you are really interested in. I want to build my own tiny house. I love being minimalistic and the idea of being free to travel and backpack around the world.
Who on campus has made the biggest impact on you? This is a hard question to answer. I have been blessed with so many caring people here at MMA.  Captain Leach, Captain Miller, Captain Jergenson, and Professor Boal have all been irreplaceable mentors in both school and life. Also, my friend Caden Pond has been at my side through some of the biggest struggles of my life.
What will you miss most about Maine Maritime? I will miss the ability to see those I have made close friendships with regularly.
How did you balance academics, regiment, and athletics? To be honest it took some getting used to. What helped me out the most was making a calendar. This allowed me to prioritize and manage all my responsibilities. If I needed extra help, I learned how to reach out. I always found the support I needed when I was able to voice my struggles.
What is your favorite spot in Castine/on Campus? Why? I have two spots that are special to me here in Castine. Fort Madison and a particular rock down the bank in Witherle Woods, perfect for perching on. These places are quiet, beautiful, and I love being out in nature.
What’s your favorite part about being on the Sailing team? My favorite part about being on the Sailing team is being out on the water.
What is your greatest challenge? Struggle? My greatest struggle here at MMA is I am an introvert. I struggle to connect with people because I am so shy. I am so thankful for those here who put the work into getting to know me.
What motivates you to succeed? My motivation for success comes from my desire to travel. I desire to see the world and this was the best way to do so.
What is your favorite book? My favorite book is hard to pick since I love to read. However, my go-to children’s book is Seabird by Holling Clancy Holling
What advice would you give incoming freshmen? My advice for incoming freshmen is to ask for help early, enjoy college but don’t lose sight of your goals, and be you. Don’t lose yourself to peer pressure.
What is your favorite way to relieve stress? My favorite way to relieve stress is by painting. I have watercolors that are easy to pack into a backpack. I enjoy hiking and finding a quiet place to paint.
