Hometown: Campton, New Hampshire

Major: Marine Biology

Anticipated Graduation Year: 2019

What made you come to Maine Maritime Academy?: I came to Maine Maritime Academy for the small classroom size and the amazing hands-on experiences. It is pretty unique to have professors that come to your sporting events and as you how your teams are doing in class.

What first got you interested in your sport?: I became interested in cross country in high school. I did not think I was going to end up loving it as much as I did because it started out as a training tool for nordic skiing. Within the last five years I can definitely say that I have fallen in love with the sport and the feeling of running. I started playing lacrosse in 5th grade. Both my mom and uncle played lacrosse growing up all the way through college and I wanted to try it out.

What has been your favorite class at MMA?: My favorite class at Maine Maritime Academy has been Marine Organism Physiology my junior year with Professor Verde. The material that we covered in the class solidified my thoughts that I wanted to go into a medical field. I am also enjoying my Medical Care Provider class that I am currently taking with Professor Boal.

What is the best advice your coach has given you?: Well, I have many coaches here at Maine Maritime being a two sport athlete. The best advice that my cross country coaches have given me is to leave it all out there. We had a saying of "no tomorrows" and it really made me train and compete like I was never going to get another day to do the sport I love. As for lacrosse, the best advice that my coaches have given me is to listen to your body and remember to take a step back to take time for yourself. Our team started to do yoga last year on Fridays and I found it helpful to return to when life got ahead of me.

What motivates you to succeed?: I am motivated to succeed because I hope to one day be able to help support my family the way they have supported me the last 21 years.

What is your prized possession?: My most prized possession is my heart necklace.

What is your favorite book? (Non-academic): Does Netflix count? But actually, my favorite book is The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch.

What is something that people would be surprised to learn about you?: I have only drank water since I was 2 years old.

What are your hopes for the future?: After graduating in the spring, I hope to get more animal experience and eventually to be accepted to veterinary school after graduation and eventually become a doctor of veterinary medicine. I am not sure which field of veterinary medicine I would like to practice in yet though.

What is your favorite spot in Castine/on Campus? Why?: My favorite spot in Castine is in Witherle Woods. There is one outlook that I always stop at when I am running the trails. the spot overlooks the water and has a little bench that you can sit on if you need to rest.

What is your greatest challenge?: My greatest challenge is accepting change. Ever since I was little, I have had a hard time facing and accepting change but as I get older, I am learning to accept that change is inevitable.

Which teammate has had the biggest impact on you? Why?: Morgan Maxwell, one of my lacrosse teammates, has had the biggest impact on me. She was considered the "team mom" and took me under her wing from the time that I first stayed with her as a high school recruit and I continue to talk with her today, even though she has graduated. She was always a positive role model for the team and always gave her all every day on the field. She reminds me that hard work and fun can go hand in hand and that you can always smile even when times are tough.
