Maine Maritime Academy honors student-athletes
The Maine Maritime Academy athletic department recognized and celebrated the achievements of Mariner student-athletes at tonight's "Athletic Awards Night" on campus in Castine. Sponsored by the Student-Athlete Advisory Board, Athletic Director Jim Dyer and Senior Women's Administrator Katrina Dagan presided over the evening's festivities.

Four MMA student-athletes were recognized asÂ
North Atlantic Conference All-Academic Selections: Robert Carlstad, Cross Country; Keith Francis, Golf; Amanda Johnson, Women's Soccer; Meghan Marshall, Women's Soccer.
Two athletic teams were recognized for having been recipients of theÂ
North Atlantic Conference Sportsmanship Awards: Men's Soccer and Women's Soccer.
Also recognized was the MMA women's basketball team who celebrated the best season in program history. The team had an overall record of 24-5, won theÂ
North Atlantic Conference Championship, and earned its first ever berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament.
A total of 38 student-athletes were recognized for their outstanding achievements as 2004-2005Â

Maine Maritime Academy Student-athletes of the Year.
The MMA Male Athlete of the Year was Dan Rosen. During the fall, the Senior Linebacker from Lakeville, Massachussetts appeared on the New England Football Conference Weekly Honor Roll two times, he was an NEFC Player of the Week, an ECAC Player of the Week, he led the team in total tackles, he was a team tri-captain, he was the team defensive MVP, he was the team MVP, and he was named to the 2nd Team All-Conference Team for the New England Football Conference.
The MMA Female Athlete of the Year was Alyssa Burns. Alyssa helped lead the Lady Mariner Women's Basketball team to a 24-5 record, the NAC Championship, and the school's first ever berth in the NCAA Tournament. The sophomore G/F from Dixfield, Maine led the team in both scoring and rebounding with 16.2 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. She totaled 470 points, 270 rebounds, 70 assists, and 85 steals. She scored in double figures in 26 of her team's 29 games, and had 14 double-double games. Burns was named to the NAC All-Tournament Team, was honored as the NAC Player of the Year, and was a First Team All-NAC Selection. She was also the first player in MMA history to be chosen as a member of the Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association Second Team.
