CASTINE, Maine — Maine Maritime Academy announced the hiring of Abigail Johnson as an athletic trainer in its sports medicine department.

Johnson comes to Castine after serving as an athletic trainer at Colby-Sawyer College from 2024 to 2026, where she primarily worked with the volleyball, women's basketball and softball programs.

"I'm very excited to begin this new chapter in my athletic training career with the sports medicine staff here at MMA," Johnson said. "I look forward to working with our student-athletes, helping them stay healthy and perform at their best."

Prior to Colby-Sawyer, Johnson completed athletic training graduate clinical rotations at Tufts University during the spring semester of 2024 and at Saint Anselm College during the fall semester of 2023.

She also completed graduate clinical rotations at Marblehead High School and Wakefield High School in 2023. Johnson earned her Master of Science in athletic training from Salem State University in 2024 after receiving her Bachelor of Science in Sport and Movement Science from Salem State in 2022.

"We are thrilled to welcome Abi to the team," assistant athletic director for sports medicine Chad Bartlett said. "Finding the right fit for our staff was essential, and Abi's personality and experience in New England collegiate athletics make her a perfect fit for MMA."
