CASTINE, Maine — The Maine Maritime Academy Athletics Department will honor six jerseys this year belonging to former student-athletes who raised the bar for all those who followed in their respective sports. As part of a decade-long tradition, the Mariners will honor B.C. Voyou (men's soccer), Joe Clark (football), Rob Marchitello (football), Amy Asselin (women's soccer), Jed Johnson (men's basketball) and Andrew DiSalvo (men's lacrosse) over the coming months.
The tradition began in 2009 with the honoring of Vanessa LeBlond's No. 32 jersey. Since then, Maine Maritime has honored seven jerseys, with the most recent ceremony taking place in 2016.
Anchored in a rich athletic tradition dating back to the 1940s, the Maine Maritime Academy Athletics Department continues to honor the legacy, tradition, pursuit of excellence and community that have helped shape the department into what it is today and what it will continue to strive for in generations to come.
By honoring these six exceptional student-athletes and alumni this upcoming year, Maine Maritime is emphasizing the importance of tradition and the pursuit of excellence within its athletics department. The honorees demonstrate to student-athletes — past and present — the impact they can have on those who come after them.
The Mariners will begin the honored jersey ceremonies on Sept. 26, honoring Marchitello's No. 2 jersey and Voyou's No. 14 jersey. The Mariners will also re-honor Clark's No. 75 jersey, which was retired in 1982.
Johnson's No. 21 jersey will be hung in the rafters of Margaret Chase Smith Gymnasium on Feb. 13, while DiSalvo's No. 9 jersey will be recognized in the spring of 2027.
