2007 Scholar-athlete award winners

Maine Maritime Academy honors student-athletes
The Maine Maritime Academy athletic department recognized and celebrated the achievements of Mariner student-athletes at their "Athletic Awards Night" on campus in Castine. Sponsored by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Athletic Director Jim Dyer and Senior Women's Administrator Katrina Dagan presided over the evening's festivities. In total, there were 54 scholar-athlete award winners recognized at the event including 7 dual sport athletes. To be recognized as a Mariner scholar-athlete a student needs to be on the Dean's list academically, and have participated in a varsity sport.

MMA Female Athlete of the Year - Alyssa Burns. Alyssa helped lead the Lady Mariner Women's Basketball team to a 25-4 record, and the school's third consecutive berth in the NCAA Tournament. The senior captain from Dixfield, Maine led the team in scoring (17ppg), rebounding (9rpg), assists (3.2apg), and steals (3spg). Burns was named to the MWBCA 1st Team, was honored as the NAC Player of the Year for the third year in a row, and was a First Team All-NAC Selection, also for the third year in a row. The senior forward was also chosen as a NEWBA All-Star, ECAC All-Region Team, and the D3Hoops.com 2nd Team All-Region.

MMA Male Athlete of the Year - Brandon Hamilton. For his achievements during the fall, the quarterback back from Skowhegan, Maine was named as the Mariner Football team MVP and offensive MVP. The senior captain also made the New England Football Conference 2nd team and recieved the NEFC Hal Chambers academic award. A four year letterman in Lacrosse, Hamilton has been named captain of the 2007 squad. Hamilton also serves as the regimental morale officer.

In addition, 11 MMA student-athletes were recognized as North Atlantic Conference All-Academic Selections: Julia Knights, Women's basketball; Rebecca Moore, Women's basketball; Meghan Marshall, Women's Soccer and Women's basketball; Ashley Douglass, Women's soccer; Kristin Gabor, Women's soccer; Andy Pease, Men's soccer; Brandon Hamilton, Football; Richard Schrempf, Men's Lacrosse; Rebecca Allen, Volleyball; Nathan Bears, Golf; and Mathew Munroe, Men's Cross Country; . To achieve this honor each student athlete must have played their sport for at least two seasons, have junior or senior status, and have a minimum 3.5 cumulative grade point average.
