2009 Scholar-athlete award winners
Maine Maritime Academy honors student-athletes
The Maine Maritime Academy athletic department recognized and celebrated the achievements of Mariner student-athletes at their "Athletic Awards Night" on campus in Castine. Sponsored by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Athletic Director Jim Dyer and Senior Women's Administrator Katrina Dagan presided over the evening's festivities. In total, there were 47 scholar-athlete award winners recognized at the event including 5 dual sport athletes. To be recognized as a Mariner scholar-athlete a student needs to be on the Dean's list academically, and have participated in a varsity sport.
MMA Female Athlete of the Year - Amy Young. Amy helped lead the Lady Mariner Women's Volleyball team to a 19-9 record, a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) championship, and a second straight berth to the NCAA Tournament. The junior from Cumberland, Maine was a North Atlantic Conference 1st team selection, was the NAC tournament Most Outstanding Player, and was honored as the North Atlantic Conference Player of the Year. Young was also a NAC All-Academic selection as a Marine Biology major.
MMA Male Athlete of the Year - Cody Andrews. For his achievements during the fall, the lineman from Holden, Maine was named as the Mariner Football team Defensive MVP. The senior captain capped off an outstanding career helping his team to a 7-4 record and a Bogan Division title. Andrews was a 3-time All-New England Football Conference selection, and was a ECAC All-New England selection this past year. Cody was also the recipient of the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston Joseph P. Zabilski Award, symbolic of the most outstanding DII and DIII defensive player in New England for 2008.

North Atlantic Conference All-Academic Selections: Kelsi Eiane, Women's basketball/soccer; Amy Young, Volleyball; Katherine McMillan, Volleyball; Nicole St. Pierre, Volleyball; Kincaid Cook, Men's Cross Country; and Omar Chaar, Men's Soccer;. To achieve this honor each student athlete must have played their sport for at least two seasons, have junior or senior status, and have a minimum 3.5 cumulative grade point average.

New England Football Conference All-AcademicSelections: Todd Murphy, Travis Fergola, Trevor McCourt, and Wade Mondoux were selected for this honor.
During the 2008-2009 athletic slate, the Mariners had 33 All-Conference Selections, one Player of the Year (Amy Young, Volleyball), one Rookie of the Year (Andrew DiSalvo, Lacrosse), one Sportsmanship Awards (Men's Golf), and the NEFC Offensive Lineman of the Year (Chris Mitchell). One Lady Mariner Volleyball player was nationally recognized for their achievements in the classroom this season. Nicole St. Pierre was named to the COSIDA ESPN Regional Academic All-American.
