Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime picked up a non-conference victory against Pine Manor College on Sunday afternoon, 6-0 at Ritchie Field.
Emily Wyman (Brockton, Mass.) put the Mariners on the board quickly, in the fourth minute when she headed a blooper over Gator keeper Maria Vaughan to put Maine Maritime ahead, 1-0.
Victoria Cooper (Saco, Maine) passed a ball in front of the net to Sarah Brochu (Hardwick, Vt.) who then beat Vaughan, making it 2-0 Mariners at the 16th minute mark. Brochu picked up her second goal of the game shortly after in the 18th minute edging the lead 3-0.
Wyman recorded her second goal of the game to make it 4-0, and in the 41st minute Peyton Ward (Greenville, Maine) grabbed her first career goal to extend the Mariner lead to 5-0 heading into the half.
Lauren McKenna (Wilmington, Mass.) started off the second half with a breakaway, beating Vaughan to the right hand side of the net making it 6-0.
The Mariner defense held the Gators from making a shot on net, while Vaughan ended the afternoon with seven saves.
The last time the Mariners defeated an opponent by six goals was on September 22, 2010 when they beat Unity College 6-0.
Maine Maritime has won their last two games, improving to 5-9 on the season, and 2-5 in the North Atlantic Conference. The Mariners will wrap up their regular season schedule next Saturday when they host Castleton at 1:00 PM and on Sunday at 12:00 PM when they host Green Mountain.
