Curry quarterback Kevin Fruwirth was 21 of 33 for 328 yards and six touchdowns. He completed passes to five different receivers, led by Jordan Shairs' eight grabs for 96 yards. Jake Cawlina caught six passes for 71 yards and Tyran Harrigan had 112 yards on three catches.
Frank True paced the Mariner defense with a game-high 12 tackles, including 1.5 for a loss. Jonathan Ware (Andover, Conn.) and Jonathan Fader (Bangor, Maine) each recorded six tackles for Maine Maritime and Thomas Kinton (York, Maine), Chase Hutchinson, and Andy Martel each picked off Fruwirth.
Maine Maritime Last Week: Maine Maritime Academy fell to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology by a final score of 55-37.
The Mariners combined for 489 yards of total offense in the loss. Junior Quarterback Michael Fahey threw for 88 yards on six completions and a touchdown, while running for 96 yards on 20 carries with two touchdowns to lead the Mariners. Jacob Doolan (Fairfield, Maine) led the team with 116 rushing yards on 17 carries, while James Ferrar (Cumberland, Maine) added 113 yards on 25 carries and two touchdowns.
Maine Maritime entered halftime with a 29-21 lead, but MIT's 21 unanswered points overpowered the Mariners in the fourth quarter.
Curry Last Week: Curry notched its second-straight win, cruising past Nichols College 33-13.
Curry sophomore Mike O'Hearn finished his afternoon 12-of-19 for 92 yards and two touchdowns in relief of freshman starter Spencer Tyler, who threw for 124 yards and one score. On the ground, senior Trae Weathers tallied 81 yards and one score.
The Mariners: Maine Maritime's offense has been led by first year running back Jacob Doolan and junior quarterback Michael Fahey. Doolan leads the team with 1049 rushing yards, with an average 9.6 yards per carry, and 131.1 yards per game. Doolan has scored seven rushing touchdowns. As a receiver Doolan leads the team with 209 yards on six catches, and four touchdowns. His average reception is 34.8 yards.
Fahey ranks second in rushing with 956 yards, to average 4.6 yards a carry and 119.5 yards per game. He leads the team with 10 rushing touchdowns, while throwing for 464 yards and seven touchdowns.
John Doyon (Hampden, Maine) leads the Mariners defensive attack with 68 tackles, including 3.5 for a loss, a forced fumble and a pair of broken up passes. Thomas Kinton ranks second on the team with 57 tackles, and leads the team with four interceptions. Michael Burgess (North Yarmouth, Maine) leads the team with 14.5 tackles for a loss, 6.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.
The Colonels: The Colonels started their 2014 season 0-7 but have won their previous two games. Their first victory came against Western New England in overtime on November 1st and then last week against Nichols 33-13.
Trae Weathers leads the Colonels on the ground with 422 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Spencer Tyler has thrown for 894 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Colonels by air, and Dave DiGiorgi leads the team in catches with 39, while teammate Jake Cawlina has a team leading three receiving touchdowns on 37 catches for a total of 388 yards.
Parrish Rogers-Reed leads the Colonels defense with 81 total tackles, 12 tackles for a loss, six sacks and one forced fumble. Devin Williams has 65 total tackles, two for a loss, three interceptions and two fumble recoveries.
NEFC Honors: Michael Fahey was named to the NEFC Honor Roll following his three-touchdown outing against MIT, the junior quarterback ran for two scores while passing for another.
