Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Maine Maritime Academy Women's Basketball fell to Fontbonne University, 55-45 on Tuesday afternoon to close out their competition in the Music City Classic hosted by Trevecca Nazarene University.
The Mariners found themselves down 11-0 to open up the game, but clawed their way back to take a 20-17 lead, following four consecutive points from senior captain Jillian Perron (Skowhegan, Maine), with 5:15 remaining in the half. The Griffins went on an eight-point run to close out the first half with a narrow 29-22 lead.
In the second half Maggie McConkey (Fryeburg, Maine) scored six-straight unanswered points to tie the game at 34-34 with a little over nine minutes remaining. After the two teams exchanged scores, with Olivia Hollander sinking a bucket for Fontbonne and Mary Badeen (Newport, Maine) sinking a three for the Mariners, the Griffins went on a seven-point run to extend a 43-37 lead that they never looked back from.
Perron ended the afternoon with a career-high 14 points to lead the Mariners, while adding three rebounds, two assists and a block. Badeen recorded 11 points, six assists, five rebounds, three steals and a block. Kristi Willey (Topsham, Maine) pulled in a game-high nine rebounds, while adding six points, two assists and two steals.
Lauren Willis led the Griffins (5-5) with 14 points, four rebounds, a steal and an assist, while teammate Hollander ended the afternoon with 13 points, seven rebounds and a block.
The Mariners fall to 3-7 on the season, and will return to action on January 6th when they travel to Daniel Webster.
