The AMCATS were paced offensively by junior William Ricard who grabbed 11 passes for 127 yards. Classmate Christopher Bettano rushed for 49 yards and one score, while sophomore Daniel Faison compiled 149 yards of total offense – including 79 yards on kick returns.
Sophomore Stefano Marziale impressed on special teams for the visitors averaging 32 yards on punts, with a long of 50 yards and three bids, which were inside the 20-yard line.
Sophomore Mike Sinto had a good game for Anna Maria on defense with eight tackles (six solo), one sack of 12 yards and a fumble recovery. Senior Kevin Card recorded nine stops around the line of scrimmage with two tackles for a loss as freshman Robert Sanders tallied nine tackles (seven solo).
Maine Maritime's Last Game: On Saturday, September 6th, Maine Maritime defeated Holland College (PEI, Canada) in their season opener 34-9, clinching the Kongsberg cup at Ritchie Field.
Jacob Doolan, Joseph DiBiase, and Michael Fahey combined for 301 rushing yards and five touchdowns to overcome the Hurricanes.
The Mariners scored a touchdown on their opening possession, forced a Hurricanes turnover on the next drive, and responded with a second touchdown to jump out to a quick 14-0 lead. The Mariners defense did a tremendous job of holding the Hurricanes to just three points at the end of the first quarter, considering they had a first and goal opportunity from the 8-yard line.
Defensively, Justin Lovely led the Mariners with 10 total tackles, two solo tackles. Matt Cliffordgrabbed an interception in the third quarter, returning the ball nine yards to place the Mariners at their 43-yard line. The Mariners rushed down the field in 11 plays, good for 60 yards. Joseph DiBiase rushed 12 yards to score the touchdown, making the Mariner lead 34-3.
After the Hurricanes had scored on their previous possession, John Curtis recovered a fumble for the Mariners at the Mariner 21-yard line, ending the Hurricanes drive and momentum.
Maine Maritime held on for the 34-9 victory, clinching the Kongsberg Cup.
Money Rushers: In 15 carries last week, Joseph DiBiase picked up six first downs and two touchdowns. Quarterback Michael Fahey ran the ball 11 times picking up a five first downs, and scoring one rushing touchdown. Two of Fahey's rushes came in fourth down situations; he successfully converting on both of those chances, giving the Mariners 100% accuracy on fourth down conversions. In just nine carries totaling 147 yards, Jacob Doolan pushed the chains on four plays, and scored two rushing touchdowns.
Long Plays: Last week Jacob Doolan grabbed the longest play of the game, scoring a touchdown on a 78-yard run. Michael Fahey completed a pass to Jordan Susi for 18 yards, making it the longest pass play on the afternoon.
The Take Away on Takeaways: Maine Maritime recovered two fumbles and intercepted two passes in the exhibition win over Holland College. The four takeaways in the game nearly match one-third of the Mariners 15 takeaways in 2013.
Lovely Effort: Justin Lovely may have looked a lot like an old Visa card commercial to Holland College, because he was everywhere the Hurricanes offense wanted to be. Lovely was in on a team-high 10 tackles, including two solo stops and a tackle for loss.
I've Got the Power: It's usually Hurricanes knocking out power. Freshman
Ryan Miller exacted a little revenge in his first collegiate outing. The York, Maine Power Engineering Operations major counted a sack and an additional tackle for loss among his seven stops.
Dool Threat: Maine Maritime lined up with two Doolans in the backfield against Holland College. Twins Joshua and Jacob gained 5.0 and 16.3 yards per touch against Holland. Jacob led all rushers with 147 yards on nine touches, finding paydirt twice, including a 78-yard jaunt. Joshua picked up 20 yards on four touches. Each Doolan caught a pass for a total of 18 yards between them.
Lead Blocking: It doesn't count on the record books, but
Michael Burgess blocked another kick in the game against Holland College. Burgess has blocked nine kicks (that officially counted) in his career, making him the leading filibuster of the opposition's kicking game in Maine Maritime's history.
Kickoff Returners: James Ferrar and Colin Joyce each returned kickoffs for the Mariners, recording long returns of 19 yards respectively.

You Can't See Me: Before leading the Mariners, Coach Chris McKenney spent 10 years at his alma mater, Springfield College. During that time he served as the teams Offensive Coordinator. One of Coach McKenney's most notable former players happens to be a 12-time WWE WorldHeavyweight Champion, named John Cena. Despite playing a heroic character for most of his wrestling career, Cena has become one of the most popular wrestlers in WWE history. There is no link between this information and Saturday's game, it is just too interesting not to share.
