Saturday's Game: Maine Maritime Academy (1-0) at. Massachusetts Maritime Academy (0-1) 12:00 p.m.

Series History: Saturday's game marks the 53rd meeting between Maine Maritime Academy and Massachusetts Maritime Academy. Massachusetts Maritime currently holds a 29-23 record over Maine Maritime.

Saturday's game marks the 42nd Annual Admiral's Cup. The Buccaneers have won the last three consecutive meetings, after the Mariners won the previous seven straight games. The rivalry was started in 1946, with the first Admiral's Cup being played in 1973.

Coaching Records: In his 14th season, Maine Maritime's head coach Chris McKenney is 7-6 in his career against the Buccaneers. Massachusetts Maritime's head coach Jeremy Cameron is 3-6 against the Mariners in his 10 years of coaching.

Last Meeting: Last season the Buccaneers defeated the Mariners 52-18 on September 21st, 2013. The Buccaneers tallied 752 yards of total offense, 394 in the air and 358 on the ground to clinch the Admiral's Cup. Maine Maritime's quarterback Bradley Reed (Belfast, Maine) completed five passes for 80 yards and two touchdowns, rushing for 21 yards and 1 touchdown, while Billy Wetherbee ran the ball 34 times for 191 yards.

Defensively the Mariners were led by Nathanial Lewis, 10 tackles, 1 for a loss, Chase Hutchinson who had 10 solo tackles and two broken up passes, and Michael Burgess (North Yarmouth, Maine) who added two sacks, one tackle for a loss in his 10 tackles, one forced fumble and a punt block.

The Buccaneers quarterback Mike Stanton completed 22 of 28 passes for 357 yards and two touchdowns. John Trudel went 3-4 in the air and three touchdowns. Gustafson ran the ball 20 times for Mass. Maritime, combining for 201 yards and one touchdown. Kyle Hardy caught the ball six times for 77 yards, while Kevin Healy recorded two touchdowns on three grabs.

Matthew King (12 tackles), Reynard Ortiz (seven tackles) and Sheldon Rooper (six tackles and one interception) led the Buccaneers defensively.

Maine Maritime Last Week: The Marines accrued 490 rushing yards in their 42-12 victory over Anna Maria College on Saturday. Quarterback Michael Fahey (Union, Conn.) carried the ball for 241 yards and two touchdowns, while throwing for a touchdown. Jacob Doolan (Fairfield, Maine) added 97 yards on 11 runs with a touchdown, 10 receiving yards and a touchdown reception, and Joe DiBiase (South Portland, Maine) amassed 86 yards on 20 carries, one rushing touchdown.

The Mariner defense was tremendous in holding the AMCATs to just 12 points. Maine Maritime held Anna Maria to just three successful third down attempts, and one fourth down conversion. Michael Burgess accounted for two sacks, 4.5 tackles for a loss, in 7 total tackles, adding a fumble recovery. Johnny Weymouth (Windham, Maine) added a team-high nine tackles and three broken up passes.

Massachusetts Maritime Last Week: Massachusetts Maritime opened their 2014 season with a 31-30 loss to SUNY-Maritime in the Seventh Annual Chowder Bow. John Trudel amassed 273 yards of total offense and threw a pair of touchdown passes to sophomore Aidan Desrosiers, who also received a one-yard scoring plunge from junior David Yerxa.

Senior Richard Ford led the way defensively with a career-high 13 total tackles (11 solo) for the Buccaneers, who also received nine total tackles (eight solo) from Reynard Ortiz.

The Buccaneers: Trudel leads Massachusetts Maritime in rushing with 83 yards, and he has completed 21-of-34 pass attempts for 190 yards and two touchdowns. Shane Haggerty has hauled in seven receptions for 52 yards, while Ford paces the Buccaneers defensively with 13 total tackles (11 solo).

Honor Roll Honorees: Maine Maritime's Michael Fahey and Michael Burgess were named to the New England Football Conference's Weekly Honor Roll following their tremendous efforts against Anna Maria College. Fahey, who accumulated 261 yards and three touchdowns, was named to the Offensive Honor Roll. Teammate Burgess was named to the Defensive Honor Roll following his two sack, 4.5 tackles for loss, seven total tackles and one fumble recovery performance.

Third Down and No More: The Mariners defense stopped 10 of 13 third down attempts in last week's game. The AMCATs only converted one fourth down try in four attempts.

Defensive Dozen: The Mariners defense held Anna Maria to 12 points on Saturday, which is the lowest score by an opponent since September 24, 2011 when Maine Maritime defeated Fitchburg State 40-7.

Opening with a Win: This is the first time since the 2011 season that the Mariners have won their opening game. The Mariners last picked up their season opener against Anna Maria on September 10th, 2011.

Rewriting Record Books: Michael Burgess added his name to the record books once again. After recording 4.5 tackles for a loss against Anna Maria, he is now ranked fourth all-time in tackles for a loss in a single game. Burgess joins John Regis and Wade Mondoux who achieved the same feat in 2011 and 2009 respectively.

Trophy Trail: Saturday's Admiral's Cup is the second trophy this season that the Mariners are competing for. In their first game of the season the Mariners clinched the Kongsberg Cup when they defeated Holland College (PEI, Canada) 34-9 in an exhibition contest.

Money Runners: Michael Fahey ran the ball 14 times on a first down attempt, grabbing first down on five of those runs, and a touchdown. Joseph DiBiase (South Portland, Maine) converted two fourth down runs into first downs, while Jacob Doolan ran the ball two times in fourth down situations, picking up a first down and a touchdown in those attempts. 

Long Play of the Day: The Mariners rushed the ball for seven long plays against Anna Maria. Michael Fahey rushed the ball in for a touchdown on a career and season-high 72-yard run. Corey Creeger (Biddeford, Maine) returned the ball for 36 yards in the longest kick return of the season.

Center of Attention: Mariner senior center Keith Nelson (Holden, Maine) recorded his first career touchdown after recovering a fumble in the end zone for the Mariners. Nelson has appeared in 13 games in his career for the Mariners.

Stat Milestone Watch: Quarterback Michael Fahey surpassed 1,500 net rushing yards in Saturday's game. He currently sits at 1,613 yards all-time, add his 385 passing yards and he sits at 1,998 total offensive yards in his career, moving him to 16th all-time. Michael Burgess is six tackles away from 100 total tackles in his career, add his 4.5 tackles for a loss after Saturday's game and Burgess climbs to 9th overall in Mariner history with 21.5 career tackles for a loss in his career.
