Women's Soccer Loses Close NAC Battle

CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime (2-4, 0-1) fell to NEC (7-1, 6-1) on Saturday, 1-0 to start up North Atlantic Conference play.

New England College snuck the only goal of the game just right of Mariner keeper Kelsie Hilton (Monmouth, Maine) in the 61st minute to claim the victory.

The Mariners outshot the Pilgrims 7-6, with four shots coming in the second half. NEC had five corner kick opportunities while the Mariners had two.

Sarah Brochu (Hardwick, Vt.) had a breakaway opportunity for the Eagles but Pilgrim keeper Tricia Sardagnola was right there to grab the ball and prevent the score.

Briana Obshatkin (Dedham, Mass.) and Emily Wyman (Brockton, Mass.) recorded the other shots on goal for the Mariners.

Sardagnola stopped three shots in the victory for NEC, while Hilton recorded three saves in the loss. 

Maine Maritime will travel to Bates College on Wednesday, September 24th for a non-conference showdown at 8:00 PM.
