Box Score CASTINE, Maine -- Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball cruised to a 59-46 win over Daniel Webster College in non-conference action on Tuesday evening inside of Smith Gymnasium.
The Mariners jumped out to an eight-point lead halfway through the first quarter, led by six points from Alayne Felix (Mahopac, N.Y.). Maine Maritime continued to build their lead with a 10-point run, to make take the biggest lead of the first two quarters, 26-9 with 6:29 remaining in the second quarter. The Eagles cut the lead to 26-18 following a nine-point run, but the Mariners scored three-unanswered points to close out the second quarter with a 29-18 lead.
Felix led all players in the first half with 12 points.
In the third quarter, the Eagles closed the gap with three-straight three pointers to make it 37-28, but the Mariners came back in the fourth quarter to claim the 13-point victory.
Felix led the Mariners with a game-high 20 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two blocks, while Mikayla Charters (Newport, Maine) added 12 points, eight rebounds, three steals and an assist and Tess Clark (Spring, Texas) contributed nine rebounds, four points and two steals and Megan McLean (Eliot, Maine) chipped in with six points, four rebounds, five assists and four steals.
Ashley England led the Eagles with a team-high nine points, four rebounds, four steals and three assists, while Desiree McGee and Vivencia Philippe each added eight points.
The Mariners improve to 3-3 on the season, and will return to action on Friday, December 11 when they host North Atlantic Conference rival New England College in a rematch of last year's NAC Quarterfinal. The Eagles fall to 1-7 on the year.
