Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball defeated Maine-Farmington 52-34 on Saturday afternoon.
Prior to the game, the Mariners recognized senior captain Jillian Perron (Skowhegan, Maine).
The Mariners jumped out to build a 16-0 lead, highlighted by five points from Kristi Willey (Topsham, Maine), with 13:34 remaining in the half. Maine-Farmington outscored the Mariners 10-4 to close the lead to 20-10 with a little under six minutes remaining. An Alex Winchester (Hampden, Maine) jump shot, followed by a Mary Badeen (Newport, Maine) layup sent the Mariners into the half with a 27-14 lead.
Maine Maritime never looked back from their early game lead, outscoring the Beavers 25-20 in the second half to claim the North Atlantic Conference victory, and avenge a 60-56 loss to Maine-Farmington, on December 2.
Badeen led all scorers with 21 points, including five 3-pointers to set a new Maine Maritime Academy single season record with 63 3-pointers, while adding a game-best 11 rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Willey ended the afternoon with 14 points, a rebound and steal, and Winchester added eight points, five steals, three assists, and a pair of rebounds, off the bench.
Lindsay Ranquist was the only double-figure scorer for the Beavers, picking up a team-best in both points (10) and rebounds (8). Meghan Smith added six points, five rebounds, an assist and a steal.
The Mariners improve to 12-13 overall this season, and 9-9 in North Atlantic Conference play, while the Beavers fall to 11-14 on the season and 10-8 in the NAC.
The #6 seeded Mariners will travel to New England College on Tuesday, February 24 for a NAC quarterfinal game.
