CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy welcomed back their alumni this past weekend and celebrated the raising of Matt Ketchen's #40 jersey into the rafters inside of the Margaret Chase Smith Gymnasium.

Ketchen, a 2000 graduate, was inducted into the William J. Mottola Athletics Hall of Fame in 2013.

An avid Mariner Basketball supporter and a Captain with the Bar Harbor Whale Watching Cruise, Ketchen has been instrumental in organizing the yearly Maine Maritime Academy Basketball Sunset Cruise, which kicks off the Men's Basketball season.

Ketchen, a native of Mount Desert Island, was a four-year letter winner and team captain for the Mariners when they won the inaugural North Atlantic Conference (NAC) championship in 2000. His many accomplishments include: MCBCWA Player of the Week, NAC First Team All-Conference, and MVP of the NAC 2000 Championship Tournament. He currently holds the Maine Maritime record for most steals (185) and ranks second all-time in three-pointers made (170). He also finished his career with 1,276 points (5th all-time), 261 assists (3rd all-time) and 430 rebounds, as a guard.

"We're very happy that we were able to honor the #40 of Matt Ketchen this weekend," said Head Men's Basketball Coach David Muchnick. "Matt has been a tremendous source of pride for the Maine Maritime Academy basketball family since his graduation and our entire program was excited to have him back in Castine amongst his former teammates and friends."
