Box Score POULTNEY, Vt. – Alayne Felix (Mahopac, N.Y.) scored 20 points and pulled down 14 rebounds to help lead Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball over Green Mountain College, 71-34, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Saturday afternoon at the Eagle Dome.
With the win the Mariners improve to 4-3 on the season and 2-2 in the NAC, while the Eagles fall to 1-6 overall and 0-5 in the conference. Maine Maritime returns to action on December 29th against Trinity College at 2 p.m. as part of the Hat City Classic Tournament.
Maine Maritime jumped out to a 6-0 lead, led by four points from Felix but the Eagles battled back to narrow the early deficit to 6-4 on a jumper from Keegan Hill.
The Mariners went on a 15-0 run for the remainder of the first quarter and into the beginning of the second and took a commanding 41-20 lead into the break.
Felix led the Mariners with 14 points in the first half, while Mercedes Rideout and Hill each notched six for the hosts.
Maine Maritime held the Eagles to 5-of-25 from the field in the second half and scored 30 second half points en route to victory, leading by as many as 38.
Felix added five assists and two steals to her double-double to lead Maine Maritime, while Melinda Ogden (Searsport, Maine) added 14 points, three rebounds, three steals, an assist and a block and both Reilly Smedley (York, Maine) and Emily Melick (Sudbury, Mass.) added seven points.
Rideout led the Eagles with 14 points, four rebounds and three assists and Taylor Hill grabbed 10 rebounds in addition to her six points.
Maine Maritime took advantage of GMC's turnovers scoring 30 points off their miscues and dominated the glass with a 54-34 advantage.
