SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--The Maine Maritime Academy women's wrestling team made its 2024-25 season debut on Sunday at the nationally-ranked Western New England tri-match with Buffalo State at the Alumni Healthful Living Center. The Mariners fell to the No. 21 Golden Bears, 49-1, and then lost a heartbreaker to the Bengals, 25-15.
Against the Bengals, sophomore
Bethany Ives won by forfeit at 124 pounds. Classmate
Isa Thesing earned her first career victory with a pin of Madison Szymanowski in 2 minutes and 24 seconds at 160. Freshman
Courtney Clifton also claimed her first collegiate win with a 1:05 fall over Kai Douglas.
Former NCAA Division II coach and NAIA All-American Lamar Reed made his debut leading the Mariners.
Maine Maritime returns to the mat on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 6-7, for the New Standard Corporation Invitational hosted by York (Pa.) College.
