CASTINE, Maine – Patrick Stewart was introduced as Maine Maritime Academy's Assistant Director of Athletics for Communications on Monday by Director of Athletics, Steve Peed.

"I want to thank Athletic Director Peed and the search committee for entrusting me with this important position that is integral to the success and mission of the department and Academy at large," said Stewart. "It is a role that I do not take for granted and I cannot wait to get to work with our athletic communications team so that we can bring to life the stories of our student-athletes and their teams."

"I've always had great appreciation for Mariners Athletics as an opponent SID, especially during the days of the former New England Football Conference when Maine Maritime and Western New England were members. In addition, the area is special to my wife as she went to Bucksport High School, her parents live in Stockton Springs and most of her extended family lives in Maine. Her cousin and uncle also are Academy graduates. We cannot wait to settle and get to work."

With over three decades of experience as a collegiate athletic communicator, Stewart takes over the operation from Megan McLean '18, who had served the past six months in an interim capacity before departing for an assistant women's basketball coach position at Catholic University in Washington, D.C.

"I am tremendously excited about the experience Patrick brings to this critical area of our operation," said Peed. "I am also extraordinarily grateful to Megan for her service in an interim capacity while we redeveloped this position description to set us up to find someone with Patrick's experience."

Stewart has served as the Athletic Communications Director for Lawrence Tech's (Mich.) 30-sport athletic department since 2023. That followed a six-year stint at Adrian College. At Adrian, Stewart served as the communications director for the 2017 NCAA Division III Women's Hockey Championship, the 2018 and 2019 NCAA Baseball Regional and 2020 NCAA Men's Wrestling Regional. He was also a member of the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association national player of the week awards committee.

The Ohio native arrived at Adrian after serving three years as the Director of Athletic Communications at fellow NCAA Division III institution Western New England University in Springfield, Mass. While at Western, he oversaw a redesign of wnegoldenbears.com that coincided with the launch of the athletic department's YouTube channel that generated 90,000 views during his tenure. Patrick also forged a partnership with the PACKNetwork that created the Golden Bear Sports Network, which streamed WNE athletics events in High-Definition for the first time. GBSN aired 50 events during its first year of existence in 2013-14 and more than 100 the next season. Along with a 300 percent increase in Facebook "likes" and creation of an Instagram account, web traffic across all WNE multimedia properties improved by 33 percent under Patrick's direction.

Stewart previously worked on the sports information staffs at Ohio, Newberry College, Alaska Anchorage, Lewis & Clark College, McMurry University and SUNY Plattsburgh, as well as in the conference setting at the Eastern College Athletic Conference on Cape Cod in Massachusetts.

Stewart has earned over 27 citations of publications and writing excellence from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). He also has served as a national poll voter for D3hoops.com and the defunct-D3softball.com, as well as on the CoSIDA Publications Committee.

He is a 1989 graduate of Ohio University, receiving bachelor degrees in both communication and physical education. Several of his former assistants hold directors' positions in intercollegiate or high school athletic communications spanning the nation in Alaska, Texas, Iowa, Pennsylvania and New York.

Stewart officially joins the Mariners' staff on Monday, August 5.
