Women’s swimming & diving competes against Maine

ORONO, Maine — The Maine Maritime Academy women's swimming & diving team returned to the pool on Sunday, competing against the University of Maine.

The Mariners opened the day with a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. Junior Claire MacDonald, freshman Emily Metzker and senior Rayelle Brewer posted a time of 2:12.65.

Senior Kylie Cantlon and sophomore Kate Griffin finished fourth and fifth in the 200-yard individual medley with times of 2:45.37 and 2:52.16, respectively.

Freshman Natalie Cady posted a time of 2:21.64 to finish fifth in the 200-yard freestyle, while freshman Marin Griffin added a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:15.58. Freshman Avery Fraga followed in fifth at 1:18.77.

Kate Griffin added to her day with a fifth-place finish in the 50-yard breaststroke, clocking a 39.93.
In the 100-yard butterfly, Cantlon finished with a time of 1:17.43, while Brewer and Metzker recorded times of 27.52 and 29.92, respectively, in the 50-yard freestyle.

Sophomore Abigail Cormier scored a 125.40 in the one-meter diving event to finish fourth. Marin Griffin led the Mariners in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:03.41, followed by Fraga (1:03.72), MacDonald (1:04.74) and Cady (1:05.07).

Metzker and Cantlon posted times of 1:25.94 and 1:28.27 in the 100-yard breaststroke, while Brewer clocked a 6:05.57 in the 500-yard freestyle and Cady added a 6:20.35.

MacDonald paced the Mariners in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 30.54, followed by Marin Griffin (34.41), Cormier (36.80) and Fraga (37.05).

MacDonald also led Maine Maritime in the 100-yard individual medley, finishing with a time of 1:12.02. Metzker (1:14.65), Brewer (1:20.43) and Kate Griffin (1:20.88) also competed in the event.

In the final event of the day, Fraga, Marin Griffin, Cady and Kate Griffin clocked a 1:58.97 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Maine Maritime now travels to Bristol, Rhode Island, on Saturday for the Roger Williams Invitational.
