WATERVILLE, Maine — Maine Maritime Academy men's swimming & diving freshman
Connor Hedstrom broke another program record on Saturday during the final day of the State of Maine Intercollegiate Championship hosted by Colby College.
Maine Maritime opened the day with a 12th-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, as freshman
Dominic Miele, sophomore
Jack Davis, freshman
Matthew LeVesque, and senior James Creegan combined for a time of 1:46.95.
Sophomore
Nate Gibbons led MMA in the 400-yard IM with a 4:43.63, while Hedstrom later posted a 52.93 in the 100-yard butterfly. Freshman Tim Reda clocked a 1:51.96 in the 200-yard freestyle and delivered the team's top 100-yard breaststroke time at 1:01.52.
Hedstrom added a 54.96 in the 100-yard backstroke, and Creegan scored in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:08.48. Miele recorded the top time in the 200-yard backstroke at 2:07.08, and Hedstrom turned in MMA's fastest 100-yard freestyle time at 48.47.
Reda finished in the top 10 of the 200-yard breaststroke with a 2:16.69, while senior
Aidan Burke also scored with a 2:21.35. Gibbons recorded a 2:15.26 in the 200-yard butterfly to lead the Mariners.
Hedstrom capped his strong weekend by breaking the program record in the 100-yard IM, swimming an 11th-place time of 54.57.
In diving, senior
Oliver Cox finished fourth in the one-meter event with a score of 206.35, while sophomore
Michael Ordonez placed fifth at 181.10. Cox added a third-place finish in the three-meter event with a 152.75, and Ordonez posted a 126.35 to finish fourth.
The Mariners closed out the meet with a 12th-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay, as Reda,
Ryan Johnson Rees, Creegan, and Hedstrom combined for a time of 3:22.24.
Maine Maritime returns to action on Jan. 9, hosting Plymouth State University at noon.
