STANDISH, Maine — The Maine Maritime Academy women's swimming & diving team turned in a strong all-around performance Saturday, rolling to a decisive dual-meet victory over Saint Joseph's College of Maine.
The Mariners set the tone early with depth across the lineup and steady wins throughout the afternoon, finishing with 123 team points to secure the overall women's title.
Maine Maritime picked up key individual victories in multiple events. Freshman
Marin Griffin captured the 200-yard freestyle in 2:21.63 and added a runner-up finish in the 50 butterfly. Freshman
Emily Metzker was a double winner, touching first in the 50-yard backstroke (33.11) and the 50 freestyle (28.23), while also placing second in the 200 breaststroke.
Sophomore
Kate Griffin led the breaststroke events, winning the 50 breaststroke in 38.06 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:58.11. Junior
Claire MacDonald posted a victory in the 200 butterfly (2:42.55) and added a second-place finish in the 400 individual medley, while senior
Kylie Cantlon claimed the 400 IM title in 5:42.98.
In the sprint freestyle events, freshman
Avery Fraga earned a win in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:02.25, followed closely by senior
Rayelle Brewer in second. Brewer also delivered a standout distance swim earlier in the meet, winning the mixed 1,650-yard freestyle in 21:22.00 to open the individual events.
Maine Maritime's depth was evident across the board, with multiple top-three finishes in nearly every race as the Mariners controlled the meet from start to finish.
Maine Maritime returns to action at home on Saturday against Husson University at noon in Bok Pool.
