MMA women’s swimming & diving posts strong efforts against Husson

CASTINE, Maine — The Maine Maritime Academy women's swimming & diving team turned in several strong individual and relay performances Friday afternoon in a home dual meet against Husson University.

The Mariners were led by junior Claire MacDonald, who captured a victory in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:06.70 and added a second-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley. Freshman Marin Griffin delivered a pair of top-three finishes, placing second in the 200-yard freestyle and third in the 500-yard freestyle, while also anchoring Maine Maritime's "A" relay squads.

Freshman Avery Fraga continued her solid debut season with runner-up finishes in both the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle, and senior Rayelle Brewer contributed key points with a second-place effort in the 50-yard butterfly and a third-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle.

On the boards, Abigail Cormier led the Mariners with second-place finishes in both 1-meter diving events, posting scores of 156.95 and 121.45, respectively.
Maine Maritime also picked up valuable relay points in the 400-yard medley relay, 400-yard freestyle relay, highlighted by a second-place finish from the Mariners' top quartet in the final event of the meet.

Husson claimed the team victory with 188 points, while Maine Maritime finished with 94 in the women's standings.

The Mariners return to the pool on Friday when they compete against Bates College and the University of New England on the road at 6 p.m. in Lewiston.
