Women’s swimming & diving splits spring semester opening meet against UNE, Plymouth State

CASTINE, Maine — The Maine Maritime Academy women's swimming and diving team turned in a series of strong performances Friday afternoon in a tri-meet beating Plymouth State University 153-102 and falling 172-93 to the University of New England at Bok Pool.

Senior Rayelle Brewer led the way for the Mariners with a pair of individual victories, winning the 200-yard freestyle in 2:08.31 before closing the meet by capturing the 500-yard freestyle in 5:56.06. Brewer edged Plymouth State's Ollie Kramer by just 0.03 seconds in the 500 to seal the win.

Maine Maritime also posted solid results in the distance events early in the meet. Senior Kylie Cantlon finished second in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 13:01.29, while freshman Marin Griffin followed in third at 13:16.46.

In sprint action, Brewer added a runner-up finish in the 100-yard butterfly (1:12.75). Marin Griffin, freshman Avery Fraga and sophomore Natalie Cady each recorded top-six finishes in the 50-yard freestyle, giving the Mariners valuable points in the short races.

Freshman Emily Metzker contributed across multiple events, placing second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:02.90. Metzker also helped anchor Maine Maritime's 200-yard freestyle relay team to a second-place finish at 1:54.11 alongside Fraga, Cantlon and Marin Griffin.

On the diving board, sophomore Abigail Cormier delivered another highlight for the Mariners, winning the women's 1-meter diving event with a score of 144.40.

The Mariners return to action on the road for their next meet against Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Jan. 17 at 11 a.m.
