Volleyball sweeps NAC weekly awards

WATERVILLE, Maine — The North Atlantic Conference announced its weekly volleyball awards on Monday and Maine Maritime Academy senior Sydney Williams took home player of the week honors, while junior Hannah Tate earned defensive player of the week and freshman Lyla Annen captured rookie of the week honors. 

Williams played a huge roll in the Mariners 2-0 week with back-to-back road wins over Husson University. Williams tallied 27 kills, including hitting .364 in the Mariners second match, adding three assists, seven aces, 24 digs and two blocks.

Tate put together an impressive week for the Mariners in two conference wins over Husson University. After starting the opening set at libero, Tate switched to setter mid match and put together a 31-assist, 28-dig, four-kill, two-service ace effort not having set all season. In the second match, Tate tallied five kills, 28 assists, four aces and seven digs. Overall, Tate finished the week with nine kills, 59 assists, six aces, 35 digs and two blocks.

Annen put together an impressive performance in her first North Atlantic Conference weekend finishing with 24 kills, including 15 in the opening match against Husson University, adding two aces and 18 digs.
