Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball stumbled against Thomas College 82-71, on Tuesday night in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action inside of Mahaney Gymnasium.
With the setback the Mariners fall to 2-15 overall and 1-9 in the conference, while the Terriers improve to 8-9 on the season and 5-5 in the NAC. Maine Maritime returns to action on Friday night when they host Green Mountain College at 7:30 pm.
The two teams battled closely throughout most of the first half, with the Mariners taking a six-point lead following back-to-back three-pointers from Riley Jorgenson (Vienna, Va.) and Nicholas DePatsy (Waldoboro, Maine) at 11:53. The Terriers answered with six-straight points to tie the game at 17-17 with 9:44 to go. The Mariners put together a seven-point run to take another six-point lead, this time at 5:57 but the Terriers responded with eight-unanswered points to take back the lead, 28-26. The Mariners tied the game twice in the next 90 seconds, but the Terriers outscored the Mariners 8-2 in the final 2:14 of the half to take a 38-32 advantage into halftime.
DePatsy led Maine Maritime in the first half with eight points, while Carlos Gonzalez led Thomas College with 11 points.
The Terriers began to pull away in the second half, hovering around a double-digit lead for most of the 20 minutes and claimed the 82-71 victory.
DePatsy finished the night with 15 points, three rebounds, and an assist, while teammate Nick Judge (Cushing, Maine) also added 15 points, and chipped in with two rebounds, two assists and two steals and Adam Richardson (Bradley, Maine) contributed 11 points, four rebounds and two assists. Andrew Liebert (Plano, Texas) led the Mariners with a career-high 10 rebounds, and also added eight points and two steals.
Demetris Webster led the Terriers with 20 points, two assists and a rebound, while C. Gonzalez added a double-double of 16 points and 15 rebounds, and chipped in with three blocks, and a steal. Angel Gonzalez also contributed 16 points, while pulling down five rebounds, and dishing out two assists. Justin Butler rounded out the Thomas players in double-digits with 11 points, a rebound, an assist and a steal.
The Terriers shot 43.5 percent from the floor, while the Mariners shot 37.1 percent. The Terriers also held the 43-38 advantage in rebounds.
