Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Riley Jorgenson (Vienna, Va.) sank a three at the buzzer as Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball erased a 16-point first-half deficit the to defeat Thomas College 84-82 on Friday night in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action inside of Smith Gymnasium.
How it Happened: The Mariners cut the Terriers' early 16-point lead to two (44-42) entering halftime.
The two teams battled closely in the second half, until the Terriers used a 10-point run late in the half to lead 81-73. The Mariners responded with an eight-point run, capped off by a three from Drew Price (Tampa, Fla.) with 24 seconds to go, to tie the game at 81-81.
Demetris Webster made one of two from the line with 11 seconds remaining and Jorgenson pulled down the defensive board and sank the long three for the win.
Inside the Numbers: Nicholas DePatsy (Waldoboro, Maine) tallied a game-high 25 points to go with five rebounds and five assists, while Andrew Liebert (Plano, Texas) tallied a season-high 21 points, six assists, two rebounds and a steal and Jorgenson added 12 points and 11 rebounds for the double-double, while also contributing eight assists and three steals. Kimani Anderson (Houston, Texas) rounded out the Mariners in double-digits with 11 points, five rebounds and an assist.
Zach Mackinnon led the Terriers with 18 points, seven rebounds and two assists, Webster recorded 17 points, four assists, two rebounds and a steal, while Lovegeurson Fleurine contributed 16 points, eight assists, seven rebounds, three steals and a block. Tyler Nixon rounded out the players in double-figures with a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds, and also added two assists and two steals.
Maine Maritime shot 53.2 percent from the floor and 43.3 percent from beyond the arc, while the Terriers shot 50.8 percent overall and 40.6 percent from three. The Terriers held a narrow 36-33 edge in rebounds.
Up Next: The Mariners improve to 4-14 overall, and 2-5 in the NAC, while the Terriers drop to 12-8 on the season and 6-3 in the conference. Maine Maritime returns to action tomorrow evening when they travel to UMaine-Farmington for a 5:30 pm NAC tipoff.
